our responsibility to addicts

By

Does the non addict population have any?

My short answer is: Yes.

My long answer: One thing I have heard some of the women where I am interning say is that it can be hard to be around family in their recovery because of their family culture of alcohol use at gatherings. It is so acceptable in our society in general to use alcohol and I believe a great many people do abuse it without being aware simply because it is accepted as normal. This presents a serious issue for those in recovery.

A couple years ago I was seeing someone and they are in recovery so whenever we went out to eat I did not order alcohol beverages for myself though I do not have any addiction. It was just out of consideration for them and to support them in their recovery. I think it is only right to make accommodations like that for anyone who is in recovery and might struggle or relapse because of being around alcohol or other substances.

Those in recovery need support and encouragement to maintain recovery. If there is someone we love or care for even a little we should do all we can to help them.
